The Branch Committee.

A new Committee is appointed at the Clydebank Sub Aqua Club AGM in February each year. Please speak to a committee member about your ideas for the Club. Where would you like to dive!? How about more Social Events!? Don't be shy, The Chairman isn't too bad!!
Please note that the image above (from a colour slide) is not the Chairman in diving gear! This 1.5metre/4foot Wolffish lived in a crevice in the Eyemouth cliff face by Weasel Loch in the '80's. Sadly it is no longer there. It was a highlight of the dive.

Why did you take up diving? As a boy I always enjoyed swimming and being around the water and it always interested me to think what was going on underneath the surface, so learning to dive enabled me to find out.
How long have you been diving? I joined Clydebank Sub Aqua Club in 1997 and dived for 3 years but unfortunately had to stop due to work commitments. But once you have the bug you’re hooked, and I rejoined in November 2004.
Your diving Grade?I qualified as a 3rd Class Diver now known as a Sports Diver with SSAC.
Your favourite Scottish diving location? With out doubt this has to be the Sound of Mull. And in particular the wreck of the SS Shuna. Closely followed by the wall at Calve Island, Tobermory.
Your favourite foreign diving location? This has to be Cuba. The reefs just off the coast of the Cayo Coco area are superb with their vast variety of marine life.
Your favourite item of kit?I absolutely love my split fins. They make movement under the water far easier for me, but they do have there draw backs when it comes to fighting a strong current.

Why did you take up diving? I always enjoyed swimming and using a Mask, Snorkel and Fins as a boy. I was introduced to diving when I started working.
How long have you been diving? I learnt to dive in London with the BSAC (similar to the SSAC) in 1967, so that makes ……..plenty ???
Your diving Grade? 1st Class Diver.Club Examiner
Your favourite Scottish diving location. A very difficult choice as there are several: Hispania in the Sound of Mull, Oban area, St.Abbs, Eyemouth.
Your favourite foreign diving location? I first dived the Red Sea in 1977. It was pristine. Now, I’m afraid, it is quite badly damaged, particularly in the Northern Red Sea. Florida Keys was great-full of fish. Isle of Pines, Cuba was also very good and very clear.
Your favourite item of kit? My Demand Valve, because no matter how good a diver you think you are, your life depends on this bit of kit. You must have confidence in it, so I certainly take care of my D/V. However, I would also have to add my underwater camera. I never dive without it.

Why did you take up diving? I had to keep an eye on John! Only kidding. It was John who got me interested, we both tried it together in the sea for a "try dive." I was just getting used to breathing through my mouth when our half hour session was up. So I decided not to pursue it. John joined Clydebank when we got back and coaxed me into it before we went on holiday the following year.
How long have you been diving? It will be 11 years in July 2010.
Grade? Sport Diver and Branch Instructor.
Favourite Scottish Dive Site? Calve Island. I like most sites as every time you go diving you never see the same things.
Favourite Foreign Dive Site? My best dive has to be the Cayman Island. This particular day we went in and everything was starting to spawn. It was amazing and I don't know if I will ever experience a dive like it again.
Favourite Piece of Diving Gear? Its got to be my pink fins. This was one of the first pieces of dive equipment I bought and I still have them. My dive buddies like them as they are one of the last colours to disappear under the water. Apart from John, my favourite dive buddy is Tom, as its always an adventure diving with him!

Favourite Scottish Dive Site? St.Abbs.
Favourite Foreign Dive Site? Northern Red Sea. Ireland because water slightly clearer & warmer than Scotland.
Favourite Piece of Diving Gear? Nothing in particular.

Why did you take up diving? Something I always wanted to do. I was a great Jacques Cousteau Fan.
How long have you been diving? 29years(at March2010)

Why did you take up diving? It was one of those thing I’ve always wanted to do and never got round to, then tried it one time on holiday and loved it. Now wishing I’d taken it up earlier, it’s another world.
How long have you been diving? Joined the club in August 2009
Your diving Grade? Working towards SSAC Sports Diver at March 2010, and keen as mustard.
Your favourite Scottish diving location? Not dived in this country as yet. I am looking forward to diving St. Abb’s and once I get some level of competency I want to dive Scapa Flow.
Your favourite foreign diving location? Turkey, being the only placed I’ve dived. It was sooooo blue, looking forward to going back this year, as a qualified diver.
Your favourite item of kit? At the minute, my fins, can get a good kick with them if the need arises, like a big engine in a car, little power if you require it. I’m sure this will change as I start purchasing lots of new shiny kit.
